Profession:Actor Place/Date of Birth:Hammersmith, London, 09 September 1960 Assiociated with:Jemima Khan, Liz Hurley
Hugh gets libel pay-out over Liz claims - April 27 2007 Hugh Grant today accepted undisclosed libel damages over false claims his relationship with Jemima Khan was destroyed by a flirtation with a film executive and his conduct over Liz Hurley’s wedding.
The 46-year-old wasn’t at London’s High Court for the settlement of his action over articles in the Mail on Sunday and the Daily Mail in February.
His solicitor, Simon Smith, said the damages would be donated to Marie Curie Cancer Care.
He said the first article alleged Hugh was conducting a flirtation with a female Warner Bros executive while he was with Jemima, and that Jemima’s suspicion caused her such distress she barely ate for weeks, and that it destroyed their relationship.
The second article said he’d be attending Liz Hurley’s wedding, acting as an usher, and had bought her an expensive wedding gift.
The third article alleged Hugh resented having to promote his films.
Mr Smith said at no stage was any of this put to Hugh prior to publication, and said "all of the above allegations and factual assertions are false".
Grant didn’t even know of any woman from Warner Bros matching this description, let alone conduct a flirtation, and it followed that Jemima didn’t "barely eat for weeks".
He didn’t attend Liz Hurley’s wedding and doesn’t resent having to promote movies.
Associated Newspapers apologised and agreed not to repeat the false allegations.
Afterwards, Hugh said in a statement: "I took this action because I was tired of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday papers publishing almost entirely fictional articles about my private life for their own financial gain." Hugh quizzed over ’baked beans assault’ - April 26 2007 Hugh Grant has been arrested over an allegation that he lashed out at a paparazzi photographer with a tub of baked beans.
The actor and photographer Ian Whittaker reportedly clashed near the actor’s west London home at 10am on Tuesday.
Police would not confirm that Hugh had been arrested, but said in a statement that a 46-year-old man was arrested in connection with an assault allegation on April 24 and bailed to return to a police station next month.
A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: "A 46-year-old man was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault on a 43-year-old man in SW10 on April 24.
"He has been bailed to return to a police station on a date in May."
The photographer previously told the Daily Star that the actor abused and kicked him before picking up a tub of beans and throwing them.
The paper published photographs apparently showing the alleged incident.
The photographer was in the area to get pictures of Liz Hurley, Hugh’s former partner, who lives nearby.
Police previously said Kensington CID were investigating an assault allegation. Hugh ’baked bean attack’ probed - April 26 2007 Police are investigating an incident in which actor Hugh Grant allegedly lashed out at a paparazzi photographer with a tub of baked beans.

Hugh Grant was born on September 9, 1960. His father James was a carpet salesman, mother Fynvola was a teacher. Hugh was educated in New College, Oxford University where he majored in literature. Although he was first noticed in Four Weddings and a Funeral, Hugh’s movie career took off when he starred in Merchant-Ivory’s Maurice, for which he won the Venice Film Festival’s Best Actor prize.
In 1995, Hugh became the scandal of the year by hiring a prostitute, Divine Brown, to perform certain acts in the privacy of his automobile. His girlfriend, Liz Hurley was not amused and although she stuck by him through the scandal they finally called it quits in 2000 after 13 years together. The Divine Brown incident could well have been the making of Hugh Grant though, after this mishap he was cast in many more films and became a British icon here and in the States.
Although many of his films at this time were dubious to say the least, their ratings were bouyed by his popularity and in 1999 he made a real comeback. Notting Hill was a return to form for Grant, made by the same team that first shot to fame with Four Weddings...it confirmed his status and saw his star on the rise again. Following up his success with About A boy and Bridget Jone’s Diary which saw him departing from his usual role as bumbling English fool and made him a whole new type of heartthrob.
He has also starred in Love Actually as the Prime Minister, which saw much speculation as to whether Brits would actually prefer Grant as the leader of their country. Hugh remains a bachelor, despite rumours of a fling with co-star Sandra Bullock, and remains very close friends with Liz Hurley with whom he owns Simian Productions. (Updated April 04)
