Oxford's desirable areas

Feature

Oxford hosts two universities, one a little more famous than the other it would be fair to say, and according to University of Oxford figures, the student population as of 2005 was around 18,000.

So many students inevitably require a roof over their heads (that isn't the pub) and so the Cowley Road and Iffley Road are obvious areas that the great unwashed flock to.

These roads and the neighbouring streets are highly popular with students as is the Jericho part of Oxford, especially Walton Street. Young arty types also find their way to these areas.

In general, the rate of house price growth in Oxford has been staggering since the mid-80s with the price of the average house in the city now costing £304,467, according to Halifax -  a 388 per cent increase since 1986.

Monied types head to the city centre for property as Oxford has a much-deserved reputation for being a beautiful city. The Jericho area can be a little pricy also and property here is much-sought after.

Professionals are known to like the Cuttleslowe and Wolvercote areas, favouring the large detached houses in the former and the rural feel of the meandering lanes of the latter. Both of these parts are near to the city centre, the airport and Blenheim Palace.
